House Layout
First you need to take your family size into consideration. How many bedrooms do you need? Will you need a home office? How many bathrooms will work for your family? We also need to look at your family life style. If you are outdoor people then you will probably want a covered patio. Possibly with a built in barbecue. Decide if you are interested in a pool for the family and if this will fit into your budget as there is also monthly upkeep and added electrical charges every month. When looking at a house with a pool it might be a good idea to check the local ordinance on pool safety. You need to find out if you have to install a fence around the pool and what other safety measures you will need to take. Look at how much storage you think you will need. Is there enough kitchen cabinets or will you need to install additional storage solutions? The master suite is usually a big seller in most homes.
Look to see if the master suite has enough closet space and check if the bathroom has the tub or shower that you are looking for. You need to look and see if your existing furniture will fit into the rooms of the home or if will you need to purchase different furniture. Walk through the home and see if it feels like the layout of the home flows with your life style. Check if there is enough garage space. Do you need a 2 car garage or will a single car garage work for now? Is there an automatic garage door opener? Take a checklist with you that has the important items you looking for and make sure you write down the address to keep track of which home had the most features you are looking for. When you think you have found a house that might work for you, looking for an independent home inspector is a smart step.
